Back to practice…

Because we work in partnership with the Circle after-school program, the boys had a few weeks off for Easter and spring break. Much of our attention now turns towards preparing for their upcoming performances. The greatest challenge is to get the guys to understand how important it is for them to work together as a team, to perform their skills at the proper time, and to perfect their technique.

We have a lot of talks about focus. I use this time to drive home life lessons about the values of focusing on goals as well as the discipline and sacrifice it takes to progress towards goals. As the team grows in trust, the athletes are slowly learning about how a coach can help them, as I put the pieces of the routine together – something they can’t see. Similarly, God requires us to trust Him with the pieces of our life.

We played a little football at the end of practice today– having fun is important!

Party Time

We had a party this week celebrating all the hard work the guys have put in! We played football, ate pizza, ice-cream, and hung out on the playground. Good fun!

The guys had a great time. These moments of reward are important in the process of celebrating the life and the blessings of God.

It’s been a great start! Our team is progressing well… they’re learning new skills rapidly, and starting to gel as a unit! It’s fun to see them get excited about coming to gymnastics practice.

We are still working hard to establish a culture that speaks trust, peace and love. I find this to be the most difficult challenge. Our world can be so negative and harsh, especially for young boys growing up in city

The daily challenge is to bring about God’s Kingdom in my life and theirs.
